occupy: the exponential horn

This colossal structure measures 27ft in length with a 7ft square horn mouth.

Reconstructed from the original design in the Science Museum, London under the direction of resident sound artist, Aleks Kolkowski, the exponential horn is modelled on the 1930's Denman Horn.

For this installation I rearranged the middle section of my 2012 work, Occupy the Pianos. I recorded speaker fuzz from Aiwa SX N5 bookshelf speakers, played the results back through the speakers, re-recorded and repeated the process over 40 times to explode the tiny hum in the speakers into an apocalyptic tocsin. It was played to a live audience in the Science Museum and broadcast on Resonance FM.
